Jerseyman Alfie Butel has continued his run of singles in June 2022 with Over N Over.
From the off it’s clear a summer release is perfect for this one as it has summer vibes stamped all over it from its synth backing to the layers of brass, guitars and more than build up in eminently chilled out style as it goes.
As Butel’s equally relaxed vocals come in it soon becomes clear that, lyrically at least, things maybe aren’t quite so bright as it seems like we’re dealing with some kind of either, heartbreak or unrequited love kind of situation (or maybe both) – though its clear Butel isn’t taking himself too seriously either.
In that though it does that great thing of capturing a mood more than the literal lyrical content may suggest and is a perfect slice of fun summer pop with a bit of more honest atmosphere to it than that might suggest and could well sit alongside Buffalo Huddleston’s Chillin’ as a Channel Islands summer anthem if given the stage to do it on.
I could see Over N Over being huge at a festival in the evening just as the sun was hitting that point of sunset.
